Over Dead Bodies For Profit
Every two years one of the world’s biggest weapons fairs -the DSEI- comes to London. This is where the UK arms Israel, the US and over 100 other countries.
In 2017, I orchestrated a “die-in” at the expo entrance, so arms dealers had to walk over dead bodies for profit.

Along with forty peace protectors we staged a flashmob of civilian and soldier casualties laying in the way of actual arms dealers on their way to sell and buy war tech.
On location I installed a soundscape of gunshot and explosions which were followed by ‘cha-ching’ cash register sound effects. Together, we created a bleak scene of the gruesome outcome of war for profit.
In that week of blockading, with the Campaign Against the Arms Trade & Stop the Arms Fair over 100 people risked their freedom in the name of peace and were arrested for attempts at physically stopping the delivery of tanks & bombs to the expo. Almost all of the activists have been to court and have been deemed not guilty.

We took action for peace and because the DSEI is (still!) heavily subsidised by our taxes. The UK government actively helps organize the biannual fair and promotes the arms industry. The DSEI guest list includes delegates from countries involved in military conflicts and at war with each other, complicit in genocide, and on the government’s own list of human rights abusers.
