In 2020 Brandalism invited me to create a billboard about car ads for what became the campaign to ban high carbon advertising. The piece was installed illicitly in London to take back toxic advertising space.
Today, advertising's digital prints dominate Europe's visual imagination in a way that mediaeval religious art once did.
Taking a long view on art history and geological time, my Super SUV is set against a collaged hellscape of Hieronymus Bosch's work, whose paintings were warnings that placed fleeting pleasures against final cosmic consequences.

“Car adverts promote private car ownership as a status symbol. Themes of power, success and social status are mixed with exotic locations and empty roads to promote a myth of freedom and mobility. The resulting problems of traffic congestion, worsening air pollution and climate breakdown are left out of these glitzy ads." - Brandalism
Other brilliant artists featured in this campaign included Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives, Matt Bonner and other international artists.
Special thanks to the stealthy Brandalism crews that installed our artworks on billboards around London.
